Series: a hero who comes back
One good clip collects views once. A hero who comes back episode after episode collects subscribers — because the viewer recognises him in the feed before reading whose video it is.
This is the dullest and the most profitable part of the studio. All of it is discipline, none of it is inspiration.
What has to match between episodes
Not "the style" — the style will match by itself if you pick the same one. Four things have to match, and in this order of importance:
- The face. One character, one model sheet, no "I will just draw it again".
- The clothes. Recognition rests on silhouette more than on the face: in the
feed the video is the size of a fingernail and there is no face at that size.
- One recurring location. A place the hero returns to every episode.
- One recurring action. Opens a door, puts the kettle on, pulls the hood up.
That is the series title sequence, without a title sequence.
Everything else can change freely.
The model sheet
The first frame of the pack is the character model sheet: three views of one person on a neutral background, even light, no shadows. It is not a scene and it will not be in the clip. It is the reference.
The point is that every later frame quietly copies from it. Without a sheet the face drifts by scene six; with one it survives to scene thirty and to the next episode.
The sheet is drawn once and stored in the project. In episode two it is not drawn again — the same one is used. That is the main rule of this lesson: a redrawn sheet is a new person, however similar it looks.
The library
Start the habit in the first episode or it will be too late by the fourth:
- Characters — one per hero, with the attributes filled in.
- Locations — text descriptions of the places that recur. Copy them verbatim
rather than paraphrasing them each time.
- Project naming —
hero-01,hero-02. Not "clip final final2". By episode
eight this stops being a joke.
The library is just discipline in text fields. It needs no separate feature, it needs the same text.
One place, two times of day
The pack includes the device "One place, two times of day": the first frame is the location by day, the last is the same location at night, with the composition identical down to the centimetre.
It does two jobs at once. Inside an episode it shows that time has passed without a single cut. Between episodes it gives you that recurring location the viewer recognises the series by.
The device needs an engine with a first and last frame. It does not work on Grok: Grok has nowhere to put the difference between the two.
Closing the loop
The last card of the pack is "Closing the loop": the final scene repeats the first with one change. Something has gone, or something new has appeared.
This is why a short video gets watched twice. On a looping platform the second view is the entire mechanism: the viewer scrolls back to check what changed and the algorithm sees retention above one.
The requirement is strict: the opening scene must be locked-off. A dynamic frame cannot be closed.
Steps
- Create a project in series mode and name it
hero-NN. - Apply the pack. The "One Ordinary Day" story frame comes with it: it is
domestic, repeatable and needs no plot, which you would have nowhere to get in episode two.
- Fill the slots: character, outfit, location. Copy them into a note —
they go into the next episode verbatim.
- Generate the model sheet and save it in the project. Do not redraw it, even when
it feels like you could do better.
- Build the episode as usual.
- For episode two: copy the project, same sheet, same slots, different track.
What to look at
Put the final frames of two episodes side by side and look at them the size of a fingernail. If the hero is not recognisable at that size, neither the face nor the light will help. Change the silhouette: clothing, headwear, one contrasting thing.
The usual mistakes
Redrawing the model sheet in episode two. The most common and the most expensive. A similar person is not the same person.
Rewriting the slots in your own words. "Guy in a black jacket" and "hero in a dark hooded coat" are different people to the model. Copy the text, do not paraphrase.
Changing everything at once. New style, new clothes, new location — and there is no series, there are three unrelated clips. Change one element per episode.
Closing the loop when the opening scene is dynamic. The device will not work and it will show.
The artefact
Pack "Recurring hero kit" (series_kit) — model sheet, first appearance, one room one window, one place in two times of day, closing the loop. The "One Ordinary Day" story frame is applied with it. Slots: character, outfit, location. PRO plan: three of the five cards are open for free, two are gated.
